The City of Rome is a municipality within the State of Georgia located in Floyd County, approximately 70 miles northwest of Atlanta. Founded in 1834 and incorporated in 1847, the City prospered as a trading center because of its location near the junction where the Etowah and Oostanaula rivers form the Coosa river. In the late 19th century, textile mills played an important part in the early days of industrialization of the area. In the last 30 years, a large number of industrial plants have been established in the Rome area assuring the region a continued economic vitality.
