About us:
The city of Scottville is a small community in the heart of Mason County, approximately 8 miles east of Ludington and Lake Michigan. We are the home of the Mason County Central Spartans, West Shore Community College, the Scottville Riverside Park, the Western Michigan Old Engine Club and the world famous Scottville Clown Band. Scottville, located at the intersection of US 10 and US 31 in the center of Mason County, was named, according to legend, by the toss of a coin in 1882. Hiram Scott won the toss from Charles Blain and the community was named Scottville and became incorporated as a city in 1889.
Mason County, which borders Lake Michigan on the west, boasts many inland lakes, as well as the Pere Marquette River, which offers some of the best fishing and canoeing in the state. Prevalent in the river are northern pike, trout and steelhead. Sportsmen find the area popular for hunting deer, small game and wild turkey. The area has many trails for snowmobiling, cross country skiing, biking or a peaceful walk through the woods.
