About Us:
The Connecticut River Artisans Cooperative was founded in 1980 by seven local craftspeople, and was originally located at the Goodspeed Landing in East Haddam, Connecticut. In 1985, the shop relocated to nearby Chester, which has been its home ever since. Now we are in a gallery that's built just for us- at 5 West Main Street/Rte.148. Our home is also the home of the Mill House, a fine art gallery.
The Artisans is a group of artists who have joined together to offer their artwork for sale in a unique co-op setting. It is a not-for-profit organization featuring fine traditional and contemporary handcrafts. Operated by its artist members, the co-op gives the public the opportunity to meet the artists. Its purpose is to encourage fine craftsmanship and to provide a marketplace for original works of art.
The gallery's floors are constantly changing with new works of art, featured exhibits, and artist demonstrations. Much of the work is a "one-of-a-kind" creation. Many of the artists do special orders for customers. The artists specialize in unique!
Also featured for sale are the craft items done by the Guatemalan people under the supervision of Project Quetzal, which is a nonprofit organization whose purpose is to support programs to improve the lives of Guatemalan children and families.
