CORE National Foundation for Women & Families, Inc. is a 501(c) 3 Certified Nonprofit organization, established to strengthen and support women and children during periods of hardship and transition due to unemployment, illness and or loss of a spouse by introducing opportunities for growth and development via education and new venture services.
Core National Foundation's EmpowerMe Women's Mentoring Program is dedicated to assisting low-income women as they develop skills that improve their lives personally and professionally. A 2011 report from the State of Working America states that nearly 32% of all women earn wages at poverty level, significantly higher than men at 24%. It goes on to conclude that 40.7% of female-headed households lived in poverty in 2010. In an effort to transition women from depending on the government to support themselves and their families, the EmpowerMe Mentoring program promotes independence via educational advancement, budgeting and credit management skills as well as by partnering each client with a direct mentor in their particular field of interest.
