The Council was founded under the original name of Onslow County Arts Council in 1976. The Council was charted in 1976, with a thirteen member volunteer board and a budget of $1,500.00.

In 1984, we moved into our present facility which has an exhibition gallery, a sales gallery, a lending library, multi-purpose room and administrative offices

In 1981,we established the only County "Arts in the Schools" program, funded by the County Commissioners with a matching state grant.

In 1995, the Council established the "Special Schools Performances" Bringing in professional Ballet, Theater and Opera to County school children.
