The mission for Crossroads: Community Partnership for Youth, Inc. is to prevent or reduce youth involvement with the juvenile justice system by fostering positive mentoring relationships between youth and volunteers. Volunteers must be 21 years of age, commit to 1 year of volunteering, and volunteer a minimum of 1 hour a week. The children are between the ages of 10 and 17 and are usually involved in non-violent offenses, which without intervention, could lead to more serious offenses. Many of the children suffer from low self-esteem, backgrounds of family strife, parental alcoholism, drug abuse, and physical and sexual abuse. One or both parents might be in prison, or sometimes children get involved in the "wrong crowd". Volunteers serve as mentors in a one-to-one relationship and offer the guidance and direction that has been lacking in the lives of these children.
