About Us:

Beginnings:

In 1971, two men ignited a spark for choral singing in two separate adult education classrooms in Cumberland and Lincoln. John Azevedo, then director of music at Lincoln High School, and Rev. Loring Chadwick, a music teacher in the Cumberland school system, conducted adult education classes in their communities in 1970. A student suggested that both groups meet and put on a concert, giving birth to the Blackstone Valley’s most popular and enduring chorus, the Cumberland-Lincoln Community Chorus. ‹

Transitions:

After 15 years, the founding fathers, Mr. Azevedo and Rev. Chadwick said goodbye to the group in 1986, and in the years since then, eight more directors have stood at the helm of CLCC. Regardless of who is directing, the purpose and objective of the chorus has remained constant - to provide an organization designed to enrich the participants as well as the community with a deeper appreciation of music. The chorus is known for its rich heritage of community outreach, performing free concerts for the elderly and infirm.

Traditions:

Each December, CLCC performs Holiday Concerts at various churches, assisted living facilities and community events across RI and SE Massachusetts. For many, the highlight of our year is in the spring when we stage our annual musical production. The performance of an elaborate spring stage production is a tradition unbroken since our founding. CLCC is one of the founding choruses of RI Sings, a statewide choral event which brings together RI choruses in the spirit of fun and musical collaboration. Our Apprentice program, started in the 1980’s as the Half Notes, is designed to enrich the musical youth of the community.
