Dallas County is nestled in the thick, pine forests of South Arkansas --- on the first rise of ground above the coastal plains. The skies are clear, the wildlife prolific, the floweres profuse, and the quality of life is rich and fulfilling. The history of the county is varied. The Dallas County Museum traces the progression from early plantation life, which was the domination of the timber industry. Along the way, the museum tells the stories of the people --- striving to have a better life while struggling with the life they are living.

The Dallas County Museum is well-sited in a substantial 1907 building with 12,000 square feet of exhibition space. While the exterior of the building has been modified to suit the needs of the bank that occupied it unitl 1993, the interior still reflects the Craftsman style of the early 1900s. The ceilings are tall, the floors are heart of pine, the spaces generous, and, the recent addition of a grand, native oak staircase, invites the visitor to explore the second floor. An elevator makes the entire museum accessible to those with disabilities.
