Double Oak Farm is an initiative of the American Chestnut Land Trust (ACLT) to add another dimension to their mission to connect people to the land. A small CSA farm was begun in 2008 and continues into the 2011 growing season by offering shares of produce to 30 shareholders. We grow using organic practices but are not certified organic by the USDA.
The acre under full cultivation sits in former tobacco fields and is part of the over 3000 acres of preserved land owned or managed by the ACLT. This land has over 15 miles of hiking trails open to the public year round.
Produce grown covers the full spectrum from arugula to zucchini and includes many heritage types from around the world as well as traditional main crop garden varieties.
Shares are picked up at the farm beginning as early in May as greens are available and continuing through October, or as long as plants continue to produce.
