History
The Eastpointe Memorial Library officially opened on June 21, 1939. Two rooms were rented in the basement of the Kaiser Building. In 1941, the library was moved to the ground floor of the Kreider
residence located on Gratiot just North of Nine Mile. Five years later the library was moved to another basement on Oak Avenue. There was a flash flood that occurred while the library was in this building resulting in the loss many books and other materials. It was decided that a more permanent building was required so the City Council submitted a one mill building tax to be levied for 5 years.
