Rotary was founded in 1905, in Chicago, IL by Paul Harris an three other businessmen. Their purpose was to serve their community as a team in ways that four individuals could never achieve. Today, Rotary is a world-wide organisation, but still holds to the same principles set forth by the founders.
The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the idea of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular to encourage and foster:
The developmant of acquaintance as an opportunity to serve.
High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations;and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society.
The application of the idea of service in each Rotarian's personal, business, and community life.
The advancement of international understanding, goodwill and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the idea of service.
