The group of believers decided to organize as the Free Will Baptist Church and in 1875, under the leadership of Rev. David J. Owens, the church was built on the sight of the present Fellowship Baptist Academy building. Baptizing was done in Fish Creek at a spot one mile south of the Church. Around 1915 services were discontinued, but the organization was kept alive by holding regular business meetings and electing officers.
