Our Vision:

"Be Thou my vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art -
Thou my best thought, by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light."

The First Presbyterian Church is a Family. As with all families, we care about the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of our members. Our family includes our active members, visitors to our church, our neighbors in downtown Henderson, our fellow citizens in Vance County, and our brothers and sisters throughout our state, our nation, and God's world.

Our Family will be inspired by a worship service grounded in Bible-based preaching and enriched by dynamic music from participants of all ages. Our family will be nourished by the Story of God's Love imparted through an effective program of Christian education aimed at all age groups. Our family will be cared for through the physical and spiritual acts offered from one to the other. Our family will be supported and comforted by loving attention and regular fellowship.

Our Family, both ordained leaders and laity, will be empowered and mobilized through prayer, study, communal worship, and fellowship with one another to create the tools we need to pursue and complete the work set before us. Our building and grounds will be maintained in such a condition that they will be assets to the congregation, the Presbytery, and the community. We will have Ministers and staff who are qualified to support the core values and programs of the church. Through effective stewardship of all of our resources, and God's guidance, we will strengthen our family.

Our Family will be led by a Session which is fully equipped to be a strong and efficient decision-making body, mindful of its duty and privilege to serve the congregation through prayerful deliberation and decisive action.

Our Family will become informed about the financial, physical, and spiritual needs of the community around us and beyond us, and will respond to those needs in a loving and constructive manner.

Our Family will grow, as those who share the values of this church learn of us, visit us, recognize our Mission and Vision, and are moved to maintain a consistent relationship with us, through regular visitation and participation or through formal membership.

With the Lord as our Vision, and with God’s presence as our Light, this vision will be a reality.
