We are located in the heart of Monroe, Michigan, on Washington Street, across from the courthouse.
Our church is a little famous. It was founded in 1820. It is the first Presbyterian Church in the state of Michigan and General Custer was married here.
The church has kept the same architecture over the years, just recently renovating the bell tower.
Everyone is welcome here, whether you are passing through or looking for a permanent place to worship.
Worship is at 10 am. There is fellowship with coffee and donuts available before the worship service.
During worship, we have a short children’s service (5 min.) where the children come forward and sit on the steps up front. This is not mandatory. The children can stay with their parents for the entire worship service, but younger children can go downstairs for childcare. We have clipboards with puzzles, etc., available for the children during the service. A nursery is available for young children throughout the service.
Our church is beautiful not only for its architecture but for the people who attend. We serve meals to the needy every Thursday night and provide beds to children in the Monroe County area who have none. One child responded to the question “What do you like most about your bed?” by saying simply “It’s warm”. What a rewarding mission this is, sharing the love of Christ with others.
Come visit us, whether for one Sunday or many. We welcome the weary traveler, the homeless, and the permanent.
We, the members of the First Presbyterian Church of Monroe, are a community of believers striving to fulfill God's plan for us both individually and as a congregation. Our purpose is to continue the study of the Word, sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ, giving generously of our time, talents and resources, and reaching out to those beyond our walls.
We value our youth for they are our future. We value fellowship with persons of all ages, for it strengthens our community of faith. We value quality leaders, for they guide us to be in a closer relationship with God and in our ministries to others.
We strive to accomplish all of the above in grateful response to a loving God who has revealed himself to us in Jesus Christ.
