About
The Friends of the Hamtramck Public Library is an organization that works to help the library continue a tradition of excellent service to its’ adult users and children of all ages.
Through membership dues, profits from special events and other fundraising, the Friends provide financial assistance to the library funding programs that cannot normally be funded from the library’s budget. Money raised by the friends:
-helps the library purchase new equipment and books
-beautifies the library building and grounds
-funds special events and educational programs for the community.
Why the Friends
The Hamtramck Public Library faces a difficult challenge. It must meet the increasing demand for library services – especially from the growing school age population in the city – while, at the same time, operate with the smallest budget of all the area libraries of similar size and class (Detroit Suburban Library Roundtable Statistics).
What Friends Do
Joining the Friends will give you the opportunity to become active in library programs. Members of the Friends work on book sales, special events, library beautification, and many other projects. Friends also help the library apply for grants, raise funds and continue to expand services that are needed the most.
