The Greater Hazleton Historical Society was founded in 1980. Three years later, the society purchased the former Pioneer Firehouse from the city of Hazleton and set about converting the structure into a museum.
In the years since, we have updated the building through several renovation projects.
Today, the facility is recognized as one of the finest small non-profit museums in the country.
Jean Gormley, society president, is in charge of day-to-day operations. Assisting her are Shirley Gregory and Joan Debias.
Visiting hours at the museum are Monday through Friday from 9:30 to 1:30 and weekends and tours by appointment. The museum is closed Mondays during the summer.
