About Us:
Greenwood School is a rural one-room schoolhouse located in Elk, California. Currently, eight K-3 students are enrolled. There is one teacher and one instructional assistant.
CORE learning (in reading, writing, math, history, science, music, PE, art) is taught at Greenwood School according to each child's need and each child's developmental readiness. Using the California Educational Standards, Houghton Mifflin Language Arts Program and Everyday Math skill lists as guide posts, students are encouraged to take ownership of their educational process through creative, integrated and cooperative project based learning. Though rigor and relevance are key components in CORE learning - relationship (a safe, nurturing and inspiring environment) is the foundation on which every life, long learner can grow.
Assessment of CORE learning happens daily through teacher observation and unit progress checks. The curriculum is modified and lessons are continually adjusted so that all students are challenged and happily learning at their highest possible potential.
