Our History :

Founded in 1903, Grundy Baptist Church has ministered in the community of Grundy and Buchanan County for over 100 years. Organized by the Rev. T.H. Thornton, the charter members of our church were: Mr. and Mrs. Harvey C. Ball, Lucinda Fuller, Mrs. Ida Adkins, Muncey Ratliff, Mrs. Lucy E. Hibbitts, Mr. and Mrs. Miles Looney, John Ratliff, Charlie Looney, Mr. and Mrs. Abraham Anderson, and Polly Anderson. Meeting in a one room sanctuary, these families were faithful to God in laying the foundation for all who would follow. Each generation at Grundy Baptist has continued to model that faithfulness for future generations.

From the beginning, the people of Grundy Baptist have been mission - minded, striving to fulfill the Great Commission in our community and world. In addition to giving financial support to missions, the church helped plant eight other Baptist churches throughout the years -- Big Prater (1907), Richlands (1931), Harman Memorial (1940), Keen Mountain (1940), Vansant (1955), Blackey (1956), Garden (1962), and Greenbriar (1977). Most of these churches are thriving today and are reaching their own communities with the Gospel of Christ.
