Guilford Newcomers Club

316 Little Meadow Road Guilford

On March 13, 1968, with approximately 60 women present, the Newcomers Club of Madison and Guilford was established. Mrs. Stanwood Dolph and Mrs. Paul Stoddard, the Welcome Wagon Hostesses, were original founders. The Club's purpose was to create a means by which newcomers could become acquainted with both their communities and with other newcomers. After 5 successful years of rapid growth, it was decided to divide into two separate clubs, one for Guilford and one for Madison.

On June 5, 1973, the Guilford Newcomers Club was formed with a membership of 35. After the first and very successful year of 1973-1974, the Guilford Newcomers Club became well established. It is proud to have a membership of women who enjoy working and socializing together with common aims in mind. This is made possible through activities in a number of committees, special interest groups and monthly meetings with interesting programs. Although Newcomers is primarily a social club, we do become involved with some civic activities by volunteering time and donating money and items received from fundraising events in town. In 2004-2005, we consisted of 148 members and we continue to grow.
