History of the Gwinn Sawyer Chamber of Commerce
In May 1984, two of Gwinn's business persons (Alan Filizetti and Jeanette Maki) decided to form an Association of Business Members. We were first known as the Gwinn Area Business Association and had 80 members. Our purpose was to establish a communication link between all existing businesses and area residents.
A quarterly newspaper of ads and community information was started to promote tourism and economic growth of the businesses. Today we have over 5,400 copies printed and delivered to an area within a 25 mile radius. You may subscribe to the Gwinn Quarterly which comes out in March, June, September, and November, by sending a check or money order for $10.00, made out to the Gwinn Sawyer Chamber of Commerce, to: Gwinn Quarterly, 248 Wellington Drive, Gwinn, MI 49841.
In 1996, forms were submitted to change our name to the Gwinn Area Chamber of Commerce, find office space and officially become a Chamber. In the spring of 2000, we again changed our name to the Gwinn Sawyer Area Chamber of Commerce. Today we are still providing that same service to our businesses, but now the community is becoming more involved. The Chamber offers 24 hour information about our communities activities, recreation and lodging, schools, etc.
Today we sponsor a wide variety of events for the community and our visitors, many who have stated that we provide the friendliest, exciting, and best "old time family fun" events that they remember from their childhood days. Come to our area for fun and relaxation or just to get away from it all. Check our list of events for a special vacation time or just come any time for a great Getaway!
