Hawthorn School District 73 is dedicated to meeting the academic, social, physical and emotional needs of every child. We support an atmosphere that fosters and values individual talents. Our guiding belief is that all children will succeed. With that in mind, our vision is the following: By June 2010, all Hawthorn District 73 students will demonstrate proficiency in reading, language arts/writing and mathematics. Student proficiency will be demonstrated by 1. attaining a designation of meets or exceeds in reading on the Illinois Standards Achievement Test (ISAT) or Illinois Measure of Annual Growth in English (IMAGE); or attaining typical growth in reading on the NWEA Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) tests (grades 2-8) or meets or exceeds benchmark goals on Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS) tests (grades K-2); or meets identified power standards and enduring understandings, in reading on a variety of instructionally supportive assessments; i.e., common assessments, performance tasks, classroom assessments, or authentic assessments in the student's individual portfolio or individual education program goals in reading; and 2. attaining a score of at least "4" in writing on the District's 6-Traits Writing rubric on fall/spring writing prompts; or meets or exceeds identified power standards in writing on extended writing responses on various assessments; i.e., ISAT extended writing responses, classroom assessments, or authentic writing assessments; or individual education program goals in writing; and 3. attaining a designation of meets or exceeds in mathematics on the Illinois Standards Achievement Test (ISAT) or Illinois Measure of Annual Growth in English (IMAGE); or achieving/attaining typical growth in mathematics on the NWEA Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) tests (grades 2-8); or meets identified power standards and enduring understandings, in mathematics on a variety of instructionally supportive assessments; i.e., common assessments, performance tasks, classroom assessments, or authentic assessments in the student's individual portfolio or individual education program goals in mathematics.
