The Parks and Recreation Department provides a comprehensive park and recreation program to meet the diverse interests of our residents. The department oversees the operation of the Herndon Community Center, located at 814 Ferndale Avenue. The year-round center offers a comprehensive leisure program and encompasses a multi-purpose room, gymnasium, three racquetball courts, a meeting room and kitchen, arts and crafts room, game room, and preschool room. The aquatics facility includes an eight-lane, 25-meter indoor swimming pool, diving and instructional areas, whirlpool, sauna, shower, and lockers. The indoor tennis center operates October through April and includes three tennis courts for reserved play time, leagues, lessons, and other activities. The department also sponsors many popular special events -- the Herndon Festival, Summer Concert Series, Labor Day Jazz Festival, Folk Fest --- and oversees the operation of nine neighborhood parks.
