Founded by German immigrants in 1864, Immanuel Lutheran Church has seen many changes over our nearly 150 years of organized existence. At our founding we served primarily German-speaking immigrants. But now we are a diverse ministry among people of all ages and we minister to Spanish-speaking immigrants. All along Christ has been at the center.
We currently number about 2,000 people, and we are a member congregation of the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod
We are passionate about worship. Worship is at the center of all that we do; it’s the hub from which the spokes of all of our ministries emerge. As you worship at Immanuel you will be both comforted and challenged – comforted when you are feeling inadequate, guilty, or grieving, and challenged when you are feeling proud, insensitive, or aloof. In worship, you will grow in discipleship to our Lord Jesus Christ.
We are passionate about Christian education. Our school and preschool help parents in the task of teaching the Christian faith. Children and parents also grow in Christian community and cooperation. Our students excel in education – our ISTEP scores are just one indication of this. We also offer many opportunities for adult Bible study in order for adults to grow in Christian discipleship.
We are passionate about helping our neighbors. Our food pantry, foreign mission trips, involvement in the men’s homeless shelter, are just some of the ways in which Immanuel is active in the Valparaiso community and beyond to reach out with Christ’s compassion for people in need.
