The Intermountain Humane Society (IMHS) is committed to promoting a life long bond between people and their pets and providing care for animals in need.
In 1982, residents of the Bailey and Conifer areas organized Intermountain Humane Society, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, as a rescue group to help deal with the problems of stray pets in our community. In addition, Park County at that time had no animal control program at all, making the problem a very disturbing issue for residents of that county. Since then IMHS has faced many challenges and evolved into an organization that offers stability and integrity, while helping meet the needs of both the human and animal residents of our community. We have adopted out over 5000 animals, most of those in the last 10 years.
We operate a small shelter in Pine Junction, a small community between Conifer and Bailey. IMHS does not receive any government funding and relies on charitable donations, grants, fundraising events, and adoption fees for our entire budget.
Our current facility was expanded in early 2002 to help meet the needs of the community, allowing cat sheltering on-site and adding a veterinary facility to ensure our ability to provide sterilization for all IMHS animals prior to adoption. All IMHS sheltered dogs are housed in foster homes and come into the adoption center on Saturday mornings and by special appointment. In addition, we hold adoption displays twice monthly at Healthy Pet Supply (Aspen Park) and at select community events.
