Jay School Department Vision
Jay Schools will be community-centered places of learning, which provide all learners a quality education in a positive, nurturing environment. A flexible, relevant K-12 curriculum will prepare students for the future challenges in the ever-changing global community. Each Jay graduate will be a clear and effective communicator, a self-directed and life-long learner, a creative and practical problem solver, a responsible and involved citizen, a collaborative, and quality worker, and an integrative and informed thinker.
To meet these challenges, the Jay School Department will:
* Develop the student's analytical skills necessary to formulate their roles in society.
* Provide a diverse program that promotes wellness and responsibility through mental, physical and social activities.
* Offer an interdisciplinary curriculum that is reflective of individual differences, abilities, capacities and personalities.
* Encourage the mastery of reading, writing, computation, and communication skills by all students.
* Uphold the importance of home and family.
* Develop the skills needed to adapt to the changes of technology.
* Provide opportunities for creativity and originality.
* Encourage appreciation for the arts.
* Recognize the importance of language and encourage an appreciation of cultural diversity in the global community.
* Involve members of the student body, community, staff, and administration in the cooperative decision making process.
* Encourage students to explore, to take risks, and to develop self-initiated learning.
* Instill in students the concepts of self-worth, self-discipline, personal responsibility, pride in workmanship, and leadership.
* Support a varied program of co- and extra-curricular activities and community service.
* Encourage faculty to maintain a professional awareness of new methods, resources, and education research.
