Mission

The Junior League of Elizabeth-Plainfield (JLEP) is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving the community through effective action and leadership of trained volunteers .

Vision

To create an environment which inspires personal growth, voluntarism, and leadership that will impact the lives of families in crisis through the development of projects and partnerships with other community agencies, while insuring adequate resources to support our efforts. 

History

The Junior League of Plainfield was founded in 1923 with twenty-five charter members. The Junior League of Elizabeth, proposed by the Baltimore League and seconded by the Plainfield League, was founded in 1924 through the effort of Mrs. Arthur VanVechten and Mrs. Wilbur S. Forest and had twenty-two charter members. 

On April 1, 1964, the Junior League of Elizabeth merged with the Cranford Junior Service League to become the Junior League of Elizabeth and Cranford. On April 1, 1976, the Junior League of Plainfield and the Junior League of Elizabeth and Cranford merged to form the Junior League of Elizabeth-Plainfield, N.J. Inc.
