Mission Statement:
The Kent Library Association operates the Kent Memorial Library to provide material, programs and services to help members of the community of all ages obtain information meeting their personal, recreational, educational, and professional needs. Special emphasis is placed on supporting recreational reading, stimulating intellectual life, and encouraging an appreciation for reading and learning among young people. The Kent Library Association seeks to increase public awareness of services available at Kent Memorial Library and at area libraries. Cooperation with other institutions is encouraged and supported.
Statement of Purpose:
The Kent Library Association is a not-for-profit organization operating the Kent Memorial Library for the public benefit of the Town of Kent, Connecticut. The Association’s purposes are included in our Mission Statement and more specifically include the following:
- To provide resources for the education, information and pleasure of people of all ages in the Town of Kent. Such resources include books, periodicals and related materials, supplemented by the development of appropriate displays or exhibits, and the use of media such as the Internet, films, discussions or other activities to further this purpose.
- To provide and maintain facilities adequate to house and display materials necessary to fulfill the Library’s primary purpose.
- To employ a staff of qualified librarians to administer the Library. The staff shall give guidance and information to those using the Library; provide imaginative and enthusiastic support for the work of the Library and its Board; inform themselves of current professional developments to maintain the highest performance standards for themselves and the Library.
- To enhance Library resources available to the people of Kent through cooperation with other libraries in nearby towns and throughout the state, and with other cultural or educational institutions and organizations as appropriate.
- To encourage and support an appreciation of the literary and artistic heritage of Kent, this nation and its forbearers around the world.
- To remain alert to the needs of the Kent community and make such changes necessary to assure Library patrons have access to the finest library the Association and residents of the Town can support.
