About Us :
Founded in 1992 by Leone Cottrell-Adkins, KITSAP OPERA is one of the leading artistic organizations of West Sound. It's 1992 fully staged production of I Pagliacci has been followed by ambitious grand operas, undertaking: La Boheme, Faust, Carmen and Madama Butterfly. All were full scale productions, sung in the orginal language, with English supertitles, and accompanied by an orchestra. Comical opera productions in English included the Magic Fluge, the Merry Widow, Cosi Fan Tutte, and the Merry Wives of Windsor.
The KITSAP OPERA considers itself a "provincial" opera house in the European sense, providing an intermediate step for singers between college training and major American opera houses. Besides giving tremendous entertainment value to Bremerton and the Kitsap Peninsula, our goal is to give young Northwest artists an opportunity to learn and perform major operatic roles. KITSAP OPERA also showcases local West Sound artists. This provides an educational outreach to Kitsap Schools, and is indebted to the local chorus and orchestra members which are the backbone of our company. KITSAP OPERA has been a member of OPERA AMERICA since 1998.
