Two natives from Detroit, Michigan: Allen S. Browne and Joseph C. Prance had an idea in August 1914. It's inception was to bring in young professional men and provide new ideas and experiences. By January, 1915 the club had grown an approved the new name Kiwanis. This group took on the motto "We build". Soon the Cleveland Kiwanians enthusiastically began building clubs and addressing the needs of underprivileged children by starting nursery schools. Then in 2005, during the 90th anniversary voted to adopt a new motto "serving the Children of the World". Present Today, Kiwanis is a worldwide service organization of men and women who share the challenge of community and world improvements. Since 1915, Kiwanis has grown to more than 8400 clubs in 96 Nations. Kiwanis family represents nearly every culture in every continent all seeking to improve people's lives. Kiwanians give their time to make their communities and world better places.

Glen Cove's start officially began the evening of June 22, 2000, at Steamboat Landing Restaurant. The room was crowded and very loud. A group of people gathered who were mostly strangers and man named Jerry Rudnick convinced them to come. Then a man rose from his seat and introduced himself as Peter Mancuso and that this was the official organizational meeting of the Kiwanis Club of Glen Cove, NY. They would become a new Kiwanis club for a new century. One that would pride itself on crossing lines of age gender and successfully represent all facets of the racially and ethnically diverse community we call home.
