Vision
To be a reconized leader for small business development.
History:
In 1979 Pueblo’s Latino community was a significant economic force. An influential group of businessmen recognized the need for an organized voice and created the Latino Chamber of Commerce of Pueblo. Many professions were represented by the newborn chamber which included architects, attorneys, business owners, medical professionals, and more. Judge Joe Ulibarri, Dr. Tom Autobee, Dr. Thomas Duran, Dr. Joe Roybal, and Victor Tony Navarro were among the prominent community leaders involved.
In its early years the chamber relied heavily on dedicated members to help build what is now Pueblo’s most dynamic business organization. In 1991 the steps to stability began with the Board of Directors opting to hire a full-time director who could devote their week entirely to leading the chamber. True stability occurred in 1995 when a facility was purchased in downtown Pueblo to act as the Latino Chamber’s headquarters. This facility is still thriving today and offers great affordable office space for members.
The chamber’s primary goal is to support the growth of small, minority owned businesses, yet the opportunities we offer are not limited to just those individuals. Today the Latino Chamber of Commerce of Pueblo has grown to nearly 1,000 members, a number that is rapidly rising every year. Members of our organization include small businesses, professional, individuals, and major corporations. All members have the option to attend any of our educational workshops, classes, and seminars in an effort to assist businesses in their day-to-day operations.
The Latino also recognizes the needs and challenges of the community. The Chamber tus was instrumental in the development of the Pueblo Hispanic Education Foundation (PHEF), the El Pueblo Inter-development Corporation (EPIC), Southern Colorado International Trade Center, (SCITC) Human Relations Commission (HRC), which is currently a national model used by the Colorado Department of Justice and the Pueblo Technology Alliance. These organizations are the result of members of the Latino Chamber interested in making a difference in the education and economic advancement of Pueblo’s workforce and business community.
The Latino Chamber of Commerce is proud of the difference it has made and continues to make in the Pueblo Community. The organization is a strong voice in the community and with our powerful voice we will continue to be heard.
