Hit the trail at Lory State Park and enjoy mountain biking, hiking, picnicking and horseback riding amid some fabulous foothills scenery just minutes from Fort Collins and adjacent to Horsetooth Reservoir.
From rolling valleys to mountainous hillsides, Lory State Park's 26 miles of trails rarely exceed a 12 percent grade. The variety of trails is great for short or long hikes, mountain bike rides, horseback rides and trail runs. Backcountry camping is also available for visitors looking for a quiet getaway close to suburban Fort Collins.
Backcountry camping
6 backcountry campsites are available on a first come first served basis. During hunting season camping is permitted on Friday and Saturday nights only. Hunting is only permitted Monday through Friday, excluding Spring Turkey season, which is on Monday and Tuesdays only.
Biking
Lory's 21+ miles of biking trails range from the easy valley trails to the advanced trails of Howard, Timber and Mill Creek Link
Boating
Horsetooth Reservoir borders Lory to the east and is operated by the Larimer County Department of Natural Resources. Canoeists, kayakers, and rafters can hand-launch their crafts within a short walk from the North Eltuck Bay parking lot. The boat ramp nearest to Lory is located at Horsetooth Dam- Satanka Cove.
Dog-friendly
Dogs are welcome in the park as long as:
they are on a six foot or shorter leash at all times
their waste is properly disposed of
Fishing
Lory provides access to Horsetooth Reservoir's Quarry, Orchard, North and South Eltuck, Soldier and Satanka Coves for fishing. Colorado State Parks pass and Colorado State fishing license required. Fishing and Hunting licenses are available at the Lory State Park visitors center.
Geocaching
Lory has one geocache located @ N 40 34.067 W 105 11.252. The park permits citizens to place geocaches in the park after completing an application process. Please contact the park if you are interested in placing a cache. Any unregistered cache will be removed.

Lory has three event facilities which are available by reservation.
Hiking
With over 26 miles of hiking trails in Lory there is sure to be something for every ability.
Horseback Riding
Lory's 21+ miles of horseback trails range from the easy valley trails to the advanced trails of Howard, Mill Creek Link and Timber.
Hunting
Lory State Park allows hunting from the Tuesday after Labor Day to the Tuesday prior to Memorial Day. All hunters are required to check in at the self service station / visitor center before and after hunting. All other laws and regulations apply while hunting in Lory. A day or annual pass is required. Fishing and Hunting licenses are available at the Lory State Park visitors center.
Picnicking
Lory has multiple non-reservable picnic sites throughout the park. Some are covered while others are shaded by trees in the area. Most have grilling bbq stands available for use.
Rock Climbing
There are many existing climbs on the granitic rocks in the Arthur’s Rock vicinity, and on Arthur’s Rock itself. Please stop by the visitor’s center to review the climbers guides (route guide and bouldering guide).
Volleyball
A sand volleyball court is located at the Timber Group Picnic Area. This is available for public use when the picnic area is not reserved.
