About the Madden Hills Branch: The Madden Hills Branch Library opened in October, 1967, replacing the old West Carnegie Branch and Wogoman School Library. In 1970, the library was the recipient of two prestigious awards: a Letter of Commendation from the City Beautiful Council of Dayton for "helping to make our City a better place to live and work," and an Award of Merit from the American Institute of Architects in recognition of "distinguished accomplishment in library architecture." The Madden Hills Branch Library houses the largest collection of books by and about African-Americans in the Dayton Metro Library system.
