The Maple Shade school district has been working for the past two months on a project to assist the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Together with community members, both the Maple Shade Elementary and High School PTA’s, our staff and students, we have been collecting books to assist a school district in rebuilding its elementary and secondary libraries. We have been fundraising to purchase school supplies and on Monday evening, November 7th, many of the students at Maple Shade High School, together with their teachers, packed hundreds of boxes of books and supplies. They loaded a rented truck to be driven to Waveland, Mississippi. On Wednesday, November 9th, two elementary principals, Mr. Dan Gaffney, principal of Yocum School, and Mr. Scott Arnauer, principal of Maude Wilkins School, left for the drive to Mississippi from Maple Shade with the many boxes of library books and school supplies
