McCrearyFest has been an annual tradition for the citizens of McCreary County, Kentucky for nearly thirty years. Started in November 1980 as a project of the local Chamber of Commerce, The Fest moved to October(the first weekend to be exact) in 1981 and has been there ever since. In 2004, after the Chamber of Commerce ceased its primary sponsorship of the event to focus on other efforts, a group of citizens banded together to keep the event alive. The McCrearyFest & Parade board was officially incorporated through the Kentucky Secretary of State's office in 2004 and remains a state recognized non-profit organization in good standing to this day.
McCrearyFest consists of several days of activities including pageants(several divisions, including Miss McCrearyFest), talent show, street revival, street concert, classic car show, and of course, the main event...McCrearyFest Day, the first Saturday in October. This day features live music on Main Street in Whitley City, KY, McCreary County's county seat. The day also includes craft and food vendors, art show, parade and children's activities.
