Meredith Public Library

91 Main Street

About Us:

The first library in Meredith was established in March of 1882 by Meredith's first librarian, George F. Sanborn.  On June 17, 1901 the building where the library is still located was dedicated and named for its benefactor Benjamin M. Smith, in honor of his parents.  When it opened it had three thousand volumes.  In 1985 the library was added to the National Register of Historic Places due to its unique architectural design.

On December 15, 1988 the library reopened with a new addition.  This addition allowed for some much needed growth yet still allowed the original library to maintain much of its original look.  Today the library houses approximately 46,000 volumes including books, periodicals, DVDs, Videocassettes, audio books and CDs.  Many of the newest publications are available in Large Print, too. We offer access to the Internet for anyone and wireless can be used throughout our facility. Our Children's room is always hopping with activity. We have many comfy chairs, so come in to browse, read or access the Internet
