Montezuma-Cortez School District RE-1, located in a truly unique area of southwest Colorado, the 4 Corners area. Our district includes the Mesa Verde National Park and the Ute Mountain. We are fortunate to have the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe as part of the greater community served by our schools, and the Navajo Nation borders our western school district boundaries. RE-1 is located on the lands that were once occupied by the Ancestral Puebloans, and Cortez is generally recognized as an archaeological center of the United States. There are over 25,000 documented artifact sites in Montezuma County.
