Narmandy Elementary School

26920 Normandy Road
440-617-7350

Normandy provides a complete curriculum which meets and exceeds all the standards established by the State of Ohio. Specialists provide instruction in Art, Music, Physical Education, and Library Skills. Specialists are employed to help in meeting the needs of students who have special needs or who are advanced learners. Normandy is a full inclusion school, where all children are assigned to regular classrooms.

Our writing program is the Zaner-Bloser book, Spell-It Write, which integrates emergent spelling skills with writing. Literature is at the core of this program. Each of the 26 units is based on a poem, which is used to call children's attention to a letter of the alphabet, the sound it represents, and its printed form.

The Language Arts curriculum has an emphasis on traditional skills, such as spelling and phonics. The Houghton-Mifflin textbooks and support materials are used in grades 1 and 2. Authentic reading in grade 1 and 2 is reading genuine literature and being able to relate that literature to real life. Instruction is based upon the needs of individual students, providing instruction at each child's level of need.

Students receive instruction in the use of the computer and each classroom is equipped with at least four up-to-date computers. Teachers are provided numerous opportunities to learn about computers and how computers can be used to supplement instruction, for curriculum management and for enrichment.
