About Us :
Separation And Organization :
Although it has been suggested that we may have had a beginning as early as 1856, the formal ante-bellum existence and history of New Providence began in 1860 by 28 salves, of whom, 23 were Rowland slaves. These slaves were members of the white congregations of Catawba Springs Christian Church, now located at the intersection of 1010 Road and Johnson Pond Road, and of Wake Chapel Christian Church, now located on Wake Chapel Road in Fuquay-Varina. Permission was given by the white congregations to this group to separate and organize their own church.

Site Of Worship :
With no money, a crude, crude structure called a "bush harbor" was built. The site is approximately one-half mile from our present building on Johnson Pond Road at the foot or lower end of what is now our church cemetery. The roof was made of outside pieces of logs (slabs) supported by posts from trees and covered with tree branches. The land in the woods, measured 30 X 30 feet, 13 paces from a stream of spring water know as Terrible Creek Spring. The land was donated by the Utley Family who were slave owners. Thus under the devine leadership of God, our first house of worship, a "bush harbor", was completed and named "Providence". Our first permanent structure (wood) was completed between 1886 and 1893 and Providence became know as New Providence Missionary Baptist. Blessed with growth in members, counting the bush harbor, were located on the present land site. With a found membership of 28, today our membership is over 350 disciples.
