Northville Elementary School is a 550 pupil pre-Kindergarten to grade three schoolhouse. Our staff numbers ninety full and part-time dedicated adults. We are a community of learners and teachers each to each other, child or adult.
Each day our hallways swell with the surge of incoming children, excited and enthusiastic about being amongst friends, young and old. Each day our classrooms hum with the buzz of learning activities. Dynamic, participatory activities and cooperative learning experiences characterize our learning environments. Each day ends with salutations form NESY the Cow, our mascot. Indeed, a Primary School is a special place.
The staff of NES is committed to student learning both in the short term and as a life-long skill. Our curriculum features:
Reading instruction using real literature, guided reading instruction, phonemic awareness as well as both remedial and enrichment opportunities.
The math program, Everyday Math, is a highly successful instructional program that emphasizes the use of newly acquired math skills in real world situations.
Writing instruction centers around the Magical Writes Program developed by practicing classroom teachers.
We believe that Reading Writing and Arithmetic form the academic base of our curriculum. Our mission, however, far exceeds academic concerns. We are truly a community of people. Some of us are older than others but we all have our humanity in common. Therefore, Character Education is a critical component of our schoolhouse life. The values of Honesty, Respect, Caring and Responsibility are taught, practiced and internalized by our entire community.
Through active participation in the learning process, all students will learn well.
Students will:
develop a sense of responsibility
become self directed, motivated learners
demonstrate substantial cognitive growth
demonstrate the ability to solve problems and make decisions
communicate effectively
