Mission:

The purpose of the Ocean Beach School District and its community is to create a safe orderly environment and maximize student success by developing the knowledge and skills to become responsible caring, lifelong learners.

Goals:

The goal of the school district shall be to provide opportunities for all students to develop specific academic and technical skills and knowledge essential to meeting four student learning goals:

Read with comprehension, write with skill and communicate effectively and responsibly in a variety of ways and settings;

Know and apply the core concepts and principles of mathematics; social, physical, and life sciences; civics and history; geography; arts and health and fitness;

Think analytically, logically and creatively and to integrate experience and knowledge to form reasoned judgments and solve problems and

Understand the importance of work and how performance, effort and decisions directly affect future career and educational opportunities.

Empathize with others recognizing that their own success involves the ability to understand other beliefs, cultures and individual differences.

Embrace positive social and ethical behaviors.

Set and take the necessary action to achieve goals in academic and social settings.

Examine issues from multiple view points and reflect on their effect on a local and global community.

We believe that all children are capable of learning when their individual needs and learning styles are respected and accommodated.

We believe that all children should have an optimal school environment that is caring nurturing and promotes the joy of learning, and a feeling of belonging.

We believe that there is a need for all children to have access to new and various technologies as learning tools.

We believe that living in the future means living in a global community.

We believe we live in an ever - changing world that demands lifelong learning and the ability to adapt to rapid and ongoing change.

We believe that children should know they have the ability to affect their surroundings, chart their future and be an asset to the local and global community.

We believe that successful learning is a community effort and the responsibility of every individual.

We believe that in the school community decisions must be made in the best interest of children.

We believe that schooling for the future should take many forms and need not look like schools of the past.
