About Us

About 1920, Rev. Caldwell, a missionary of the American Sunday School Union, organized a Sunday School in the East Lincoln Town Hall. The group outgrew that building and moved to the Stillwater Congregational Church, which was not in use at the time. In the early 1920's, Rev. Caldwell arranged for Roy Peterson, a student at the St. Paul Bible Institute, to preach during his summer vacation. He worked on various farms in the neighborhood during the week. When Peterson went back to school in the fall, he was instrumental in getting Rev. Lloyd Peabody to come to the church. Rev. Peabody held evangelistic meetings at Stillwater in the fall and organized the group as an Alliance Church in 1924.

Rev. Joe Rostad was called as the first pastor (1925-1926). He also preached at the Plain View School west of Floyd and at the Burr Oak School. Rev. Peabody also conducted evangelistic meetings for seven weeks in a tent of Mechanic Street in Osage, the next summer. Rev. Brownell held meetings at the Stillwater "Blue School" the same summer, and new families came into the church as a result of the meetings.
