Mission :
Our mission is to give each other, our community and our world the peace Jesus has given us.
History :
The German Evangelical Peace Church was organized in West Bend on November 23, 1890, with seventeen members. Other German Lutherans had settled four miles east of West Bend about 1875. They met in the sod home of Wm. Rabe. The first Lutheran service was held in a school house one mile east and one-half mile north of West Bend with the Rev. C.F.W. Maahs of Lotts Creek sometime between 1884 and 1886. In 1902, the Rev. Wm. Faulstich of Whittemore held services in the Rabe home. On July 28, 1907 a congregational meeting was called to discuss organizing a new congregation. The official minutes recorded state, "Resolved that the Evangelical Peace Church at West Bend, Palo Alto County, Iowa transfer her property and all her rights to the new congregation which is to be formed by uniting with a number of Lutheran Christians living in this locality, and that the Evangelical Peace Church is now dissolved." Only the members of the Evangelical congregation voted and accepted the above resolution unanimously. Pastor H.W. Striepe of Brewster, Minnesota accepted the call extended to him and moved to West Bend in the fall of 1907. From its beginning in 1907, Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church has continued to preach Christ crucified, His resurrection and the forgiveness we receive through Him. Our mission is to give to each other, our community and our world the peace Jesus has given to us.
