Mission

The mission of Putnam General Hospital is to make a positive difference in the lives of our customers and in the communities we serve through the effective and efficient provision of quality healthcare services.

History

Putnam General Hospital has been in continuous operation since its opening on March 1, 1968. The original facility was comprised of 38 beds when the first patient was transferred from Jordan Hospital to Putnam General on March 1, 1968. In 1974, through addition and expansion, a surgery wing was opened with 17 beds. Then in June of 1978, a modern intensive care unit was opened with three beds. After completing a $5 million dollar renovation in 1993, the hospital was a modern state-of-the-art 50 bed hospital, including 5 ICU beds.

In 2004, the hospital began expanding once again to enlarge the areas of Physical Therapy, Cardiac Rehabilitation, and storage. As part of this expansion, two additional recovery beds are being added to the Operating Room area, as well as a family waiting room. The expansion is also bringing the hospital’s CT Scanner into the hospital from an outside building.

Our Emergency Room, Operating Room, Lab, X-Ray and other support services are attractive, functional departments that enhance our ability to provide professional care with a personal touch.
