Our Mission Statement
To Renew and build the economic and cultural community of Martinsville.
The Rediscover Historic Martinsville Main Street Program is a team of residents, merchants, property owners and other interested citizens who believe that Martinsville, Indiana, is a special place to visit, live, work and play.
The Rediscover Historic Martinsville Main Street Program is a part of the National Trust for Historic Preservation's Main Street Center, and is one of over 1,200 Main Street communities across the country united with the common goal of preserving America's historic downtowns as economically vibrant parts of the community.
Main Street inspires community pride by sponsoring events which are held primarily downtown, year round. Residents enjoy the benefits of Main Street's commitment to a beautiful downtown.
Main Street encourages property maintenance and renovation and can provide exterior design assistance, by sharing information on local historic design guidelines and supplying resources for historic building renovation. The Morgan County Historic Preservation Society has been a tremendous impetus in bringing the Main Street approach to Martinsville and promoting a useful and much needed ordinance for the city. When all available buildings are teeming with activity from dining to shopping to entertainment, to any number of different and diverse activities, property values are strengthened and they help to preserve the special character of our downtown.
Main Street enhances the downtown business climate. The committees work with merchants on store design and visual merchandising, as well as the streetscape. Competition from the big box stores has hurt cities and towns everywhere, but there is a place in time for business in our downtown, and that time is now.
