We are excited to begin our third season for Rise & Shine Farm CSA. We view this enterprise as a partnership, and encourage the regular involvement of our members on the farm. Being able to participate in growing the food that you and your family will eat is FUN, and very rewarding.
Members pick up their shares once a week during the season, either on Tuesdays at the farm or Fridays at the Marshfield Farmer's Market (choose one or the other). The exact contents will vary depending on the season, what is ready to harvest, and growing conditions. Early shares typically contain more greens and are smaller; as the season progresses the variety and quantity will increase. We plant a wide selection of standard as well as less common vegetables, including many heirlooms.
We aim to have each weekly share contain 6-10 different items in sufficient quantities to provide for two adults who eat a lot of vegetables, or a family of four. We are only offering one share size at this time. If you think there may be more vegetables than you can eat in a week, it is easy to freeze extra produce, or you can split a share with a friend. If splitting a share, if generally works better to alternate weeks, as the produce can be difficult to divide. If you won't be able to pick up your share for some reason, we encourage you to arrange for a friend to pick it up.
We are looking for new members who are concerned by industrial food production and how it is affecting our health, who are willing to accept the rewards and challenges of eating seasonally, and who want to join a community of like minded people who are helping to build something important.
To that end, we ask that all members become involved in some way, because we believe it's important to become reconnected with our food production. Regular members, who commit to working at least 20 hours per season, will receive a discount of $125 on the share price. If you are interested in a work exchange arrangement to cover all or part of your share cost, let us know and we'll see what we can work out. CSA members report that having the opportunity to participate was one of the most meaningful parts of their experience. We love working alongside folks who want to be involved with growing their food!
Please read all the Community Supported Agriculture info pages (click on the CSA tab above) to ensure that you understand how the CSA model works, and decide whether it would be a good fit for your family. CSAs are not for everyone - please carefully consider whether it makes sense for you. If you are would like to become a member, or have any questions, please send us an e-mail.
Rise and Shine Farm is committed to using only sustainable and organic cultural practices. Our soil based approach to fertility and nutrition uses cover crops / green manures, compost, rock powders and natural soil amendments to enhance the population of soil microorganisms. The soil feeds the plants - it is our job to feed the soil.
We are pursuing organic certification, and are currently categorized as 'transitioning to organic', which means we are using only organic practices, fertilizers etc. We never use chemical pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers or genetically modified seeds.
