Rotary Club of Orangevale

9272 Greenback Lane
916-757-2524

History

The Orangevale Rotary Club had its beginning April 30, 1960 when a committee of members of the Folsom Rotary Club proceeded with the request and approval from District 519 to form a new club in Orangevale. The chairman of the committee and person who spearheaded this task was the late Dr. Carl Sundahl. He was unofficial advisor to the club for several years. Orangevale has close ties to the roots of Rotary International, since RI was founded in 1905 in Chicago, which later sponsored the San Francisco, who founded the Folsom Club.

Our first president was Richard Bacon, owner of Orangevale Glass Company on Greenback Lane. A very successful membership drive resulted in a membership of 30 by the end of the first year.

During the 60's and 70's, Orangevale Rotary and Orangevale Chamber of Commerce served as area representatives regarding zoning decisions and events affecting the Orangevale area. Also during the 70's, the city of Folsom tried to annex Orangevale. Members of Rotary, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Orangevale Community Planning Advisory Council prevented this annexation.
