About St. Michael's Parish:

The Church of Saint Michael is a Catholic Parish in the Diocese of New Ulm, Minnesota. Located in the rural southwest part of the state our parish family consists of about 590 members (190 families). By measure of average age we are the second youngest parish in the Diocese.
In 2004 we celebrated our Centennial. As we contemplate the faith that brought us to that moment, we praise God for the gift of our ancestors who preserved and transmitted that faith to us.

History:

St. Michael's was founded (incorporated) on March 5,1904. The parish was created after it was determined that the railroad was coming to Milroy and the Church of Our Lady of Victory on Westline Road was in the wrong place. So the Westline church was moved to Lucan (the railroad was going through there also) and a new church was constructed in Milroy. The property upon which the church would be built was purchased at auction for $75. The church was then built and dedicated to the glory of God under the patronage of Saint Michael the Archangel. The 54' x 30' wooden structure was built for the sum of $3,000.

St. Michael's remained a mission of the Lucan parish until 1939 when it too became a parish. The first rectory was built that year (also for $3,000) and the first resident pastor, Fr. Denis Noonan moved in. The parish continued to thrive and in 1959 a decision was taken to build a new church building. Unfortunately a drought that year limited the income of the farmers of the parish. The next year however was a good one and fundraising began. In 1961 Fr. O’Connor broke ground for the new church building. The building was consecrated on June 5, 1962 by the Most Reverend Alphonse Schladweiler.
