Preaching was commenced in this vicinity by Rev. John F. Hornberger in the year 1847 in the public school-house. Just how long he served the people as pastor, the congregation has no record. About the same time a temporary organization was formed. Preaching was continued in the school-house for years by Revs. Yeager, Schmaltzl, Groh, Struntz, Weaver and A. M. Strauss. During Rev. Strauss' pastorate a permanent organization was formed and the present church building erected in the year 1882. The first class was confirmed by Rev. Strauss on Oct. 27, 1883. Rev. Strauss was pastor until the year 1887, from which time until 1889, the congregation was supplied by students. From 1889-1892, the congregation was supplied by different pastors or members of the district conference. During the year 1892-Jan. 1, 1893. Rev. J. Hilpot was pastor. In July of the same year, 1893, the Rev. A. J. L. Breinig, present pastor, took charge. During his time the congregation has grown considerably. Two large classes have been confirmed by him. Considering the great distance the majority of members have to the church, large audiences come together every four weeks. It has been a burden to the congregation, on account of the distance, to conduct a successful Sunday-school. The Sunday-school uses Lutheran literature. The average membership of the Sunday-school is about fifty.
The communicant membership of the congregation is one hundred and ten. The congregation has a Ladies' Aid Society, which does a good work for the congregation.
