For those of you who have visited the Door County Peninsula of Wisconsin, we need not tell about the breathtaking beauty of the area. Washington Island, we think, is the best.
Located just off the northernmost tip of Wisconsin's "thumb," this six-mile-square island is a jewel in the sparkling waters of Lake Michigan -- remote, tranquil and "beyond the tension line."
The Island provides an excellent setting for the Sievers School of Fiber Arts. We began our school in 1979, making our home in the refurbished Jackson Harbor Schoolhouse, which dates back to 1895. In 1982 we added a turn-of-the-century landmark barn, renovated to house a studio and dorm facility. These were joined in recent years by two beautiful new studios, a weaving studio with maple floors and Norwegian pine wainscoting and ceiling, and a hexagonal building with large pine support pillars and a cedar decking floor. These buildings allow ample space and impart a warm feeling of friendship and inspiration for our students.
come enjoy, relax and learn. Be one of us, as you meet new friends. We will be waiting for you.
