Sommers' Harvest CSA is a small, family run CSA. Members will pick up shares from the first week of June through the second week of November at the Hamilton Farmers' Market on the Hamilton village green Saturdays from 9am and 1pm. We will be growing over 40 types of vegetables and 200 varieties. Join us in celebrating the seasons!
Our intention* is to include the following in each weekly share:
a bag of lettuce greens/mesclun mix a cooking green (rotation of kale, chard, cabbage, escarole, radicchio, etc.), an allium (onion family - scallions in spring, then a rotation of shallots, leeks, scallions, and onions), a root crop (a rotation of parsnips, radishes, turnips, beets, scorzonera, carrots, potatoes and rutabaga), sprouts at least every other week, a choice of 1-2 herbs, seasonal produce (see our growing list), and a newsletter with recipes and news from the farm
Important weekly share notes: Spring and fall weekly shares may be smaller than those received during the summer. Shares will be distributed in reusable bags and any additional packaging used will be made of compostable materials. Vegetables will be washed unless the washing process decreases the quality or shelf life of the vegetable (ex: potatoes and onions). We will provide choices among vegetables when possible. We will not have a share during one week in July due to a family vacation, but will let all members know at the beginning of the season what week that will be. We have a compost option for $5 which allows you to buy a bucket, fill it with food scraps, bring it to your CSA pickup and exchange it for a clean empty bucket. We will then compost your food scraps on the farm. All new members of the CSA have the option of a free new member kit which includes a copy of "From Asparagus to Zucchini: A guide to cooking farm-fresh seasonal product" and a Sommers' Harvest Farm tote bag.
Our mission is to increase the availability of safe, nutritious vegetables and fruit in Hamilton, NY and the surrounding region. We grow all of our products in an ecologically sensitive manner that celebrates our connection to the land.
In the long term we hope to achieve this by intertwining aspects of organic agriculture, habitat restoration, ecological building techniques and energy generation, and environmental education.
We farm two rented acres in Hamilton near Woodman Pond, growing over 40 different types of vegetables and more than 200 varieties - we hope to add a new vegetable to our array every year! We would never consider using synthetic chemicals or fertilizers.
